An optimal Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test of mortality and a continuous outcome.

چکیده
We consider a two-group randomized clinical trial, where mortality affects the assessment of a follow-up continuous outcome. Using the worst-rank composite endpoint, we develop a weighted Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test statistic to analyze the data. We determine the optimal weights for the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test statistic that maximize its power. We derive a formula for its power and demonstrate its accuracy in simulations. Finally, we apply the method to data from an acute ischemic stroke clinical trial of normobaric oxygen therapy.

A data-adaptive methodology for finding an optimal weighted generalized Mann-Whitney-Wilcoxon statistic
Xie and Priebe [2002. “Generalizing the Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon Statistic”. J. Nonparametric Statist. 12, 661–682] introduced the class of weighted generalized Mann–Whitney–Wilcoxon (WGMWW) statistics which contained as special cases the classical Mann–Whitney test statistic and many other nonparametric distribution-free test statistics commonly used for the two-sample testing problem. The two-sa...

PURPOSE To determine whether pupil enlargement during phacotrabeculectomy affects postoperative visual acuity and intraocular pressure (IOP) compared to combined surgery without pupil enlargement. METHODS A retrospective study of 74 patients who underwent combined phacotrabeculectomy with (37 eyes) or without (37 eyes) pupil enlargement was performed. Postoperative outcome measures included b...
متن کاملWhen t-tests or Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney tests won't do.
t-Tests are widely used by researchers to compare the average values of a numeric outcome between two groups. If there are doubts about the suitability of the data for the requirements of a t-test, most notably the distribution being non-normal, the Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test may be used instead. However, although often applied, both tests may be invalid when discrete and/or extremely skew data...

متن کاملA note on the use of the non-parametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test in the analysis of medical studies
BACKGROUND Although non-normal data are widespread in biomedical research, parametric tests unnecessarily predominate in statistical analyses. METHODS We surveyed five biomedical journals and - for all studies which contain at least the unpaired t-test or the non-parametric Wilcoxon-Mann-Whitney test - investigated the relationship between the choice of a statistical test and other variables ...
